Vehicle Description
New in 2014 was the addition of 4Matic all-wheel drive on the E63 AMG, which for customers in the U.S. would be coupled with its beastly twin-boosted V-8, and a cabin whose luxury and comfort are contenders for world's best.
If speed is the goal, the newest Mercedes AMG certainly delivers. With not a hint of wheel spin, it rips to 60 mph in a claimed 3.6 seconds—0.6 second less than the old rear-drive model could manage in the best of conditions. In this S-Model, the E63's twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 is boosted to 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque from 550-hp and 531 lb-ft of torque on the base version. The extra grunt knocks another tenth off the trip to 60. That's an astonishing 0.2 second faster than what Mercedes claims for its SLS AMG supercar.
AMG is keen to stress that its version of 4MATIC isn’t the same as Mercedes’ system, but is instead a lighter and more performance-oriented setup.
The 2014 E63 AMG represents the tuner’s latest step towards a full all-wheel-drive lineup as a response to the ever increasing amounts of power and torque.
Inside, you’ll find plush materials, grippy sport seats, and plenty of carbon fiber and aluminum trim to remind you of the car’s sporting prowess. The grip areas of the black Nappa leather steering wheel rim with flattened top and bottom is finished in Alcantara with gray contrasting seams.
Our 2014 E63S 4MATIC includes matte-gray wheels, red brake calipers, an Alcantara-swathed steering wheel, and contrasting interior stitching. More important, this S-Model comes with a limited-slip rear differential and the AMG carbon-ceramic brakes system (a $9000 optional package).
It will be a rare chance that you'll get to use the full extent of the E63 AMG S-model 4MATIC's vast potential on North American roads, but those that do will experience one of the finest and most entertaining four-door performance cars ever built.
This is a car that reaches almost-supersonic speeds in less than 10 seconds.
No matter what the drive mode or the weather, the E63S absolutely devours the horizon ahead. Eating clouds and air with the ferocity of a Veyron, the E63S AMG's accessible performance is part of its charm. A ride so smooth and brakes so strong, they make the Stingray and GT-R seem a bit under-prepared.
